Britam Foundation and Davis & Shirtliff Provide Water Solution to Machakos School

Britam Foundation and Davis & Shirtliff Deliver Sustainable Water Solution to Machakos County School

Machakos County, Kenya- Britam Foundation, in collaboration with Davis & Shirtliff, has successfully installed a solar-powered borehole pump at St. Veronica Giuliani Primary School under the Lea Salama Initiative. This transformative project aims to enhance holistic well-being and early childhood education through sustainable energy solutions.

The school, home to 400 students, previously faced significant challenges in accessing clean water. The cost of electricity required to pump water from a 200-meter-deep borehole was unsustainable for the institution, as most parents come from humble backgrounds and rising electricity bills were unaffordable.

The installation of the solar-powered borehole system now guarantees a consistent and cost-effective water supply. This development is expected to greatly improve students' health by reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and ensuring they can dedicate more time to their studies.

In addition to health benefits, the project supports the school’s transition to environmentally conscious operations. By embracing renewable energy, the school can reduce its carbon footprint and model sustainable practices for the community.

Britam Foundation and Davis & Shirtliff remain committed to empowering communities through impactful partnerships and innovative solutions that address critical challenges in education and well-being.
